The Barns

Pitlands Barn was originally built in 1844 and up until recently was used as a grain store and dryer. Now redundant as a farm building, and wanting to protect and enhancing the traditional characteristics of this old Sussex flint barn, we have created three very low carbon and sustainable self-catering holiday cottages. We are members of the Green Tourism Business Scheme and have recently been awarded Gold Award.

Our holiday cottages include-

  • Air source heat pumps for heating
  • Wood burning stoves
  • Under floor heating
  • Solar panels for hot water
  • Rainwater harvesting for the washing machine and for flushing loos
  • Energy monitoring service of each individual unit
  • A-rated appliances
  • Low energy light bulbs

We support local food businesses and local farm-based attractions.

We promote walking and cycling and offer a pick up service to link to public transport. It is possible to have a virtually carbon neutral stay with us.

The nearest mainline train stations are Petersfield, Chichester or Havant, all  8 miles away. Details of train times can be found on The Train Line   A bus runs between Chichester and Petersfield, no.54 Emsworth and District, the nearest stop to Pitlands Barns being Walderton, 1.5 miles away. It is an infrequent service. Details can be found on Emsworth & District

There are storage facilities for bikes in an ajoining barn and a comprehensice workshop for repairs.
